Hi, My name is Michelle. When I got married, I really wanted to be able to give the very best bride speech. Not an easy task when you’re not a great public speaker, but I did it and didn’t make a complete fool of myself. This is my story.
My wedding was a small private affair, but the reception was another story. The church we chose was extremely small, but very special and when it was really important to have it there no matter what.
When it came to giving my bride speech, I was so nervous. I decided to use some of the calming techniques that are mentioned in the wedding speech book and they helped, but I was still a nervous wreck.

I kept my cards organized as I knew that without them, I would be a lost cause. Having cards is vital if you are like me and have problems with talking in public. My cards just had keywords that summarised the next part of my speech and because I forget how to start the next sentence each card included the first two words of that part of the speech.
Once I had got going, it went a little better. I got my first laugh right at the beginning, which meant that people were enjoying it and I remebered to include all the bits and pieces and ended off with the biggest punchline.
I know it’s hard to image what you would say, but I included lyrics from my favourite Beatles song as my punchline and then used that song as my first dance which had everyone laughing again. My sister has since got married and she used the book too.
Her speech was very different, she is a lot more conservative than I am and she used poetry in hers, not something that I would do, but it really worked for her.
